My dear sweet Wynwood, what can i say, you’ve come such a long way. I barely recognize you now. Just 2 years ago we were hanging out and you barely had a change of wardrobe, your streets were dirty, you never shaved, and somehow, you always managed to keep me safe – you had a simple coffee shop where I often found myself writing about you, and a simple bar, where all of your friends came together to play.
Now, all of that wonderful personality you have is starting to be exploited. People from all over the world want to come over to meet you. I wonder to myself though, how did it happen so fast? You are the definition of an over night celebrity. Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy for you… you’ve become cool enough to charge for parking, host Beyonce and JayZ for lunch, the crosswalks were uniquely painted to keep your friends from getting hurt while walking around, and your lines to get in anywhere are now always out the door long.
You’ve earned the title of being one of the most popular and prestigious art district’s in the world and all while still being so young! I appreciate how hard you’ve worked, but i hope you don’t forget, your success is directly connected to people like me the artists, the vagabonds and misfits. We came together and made you so pretty like an epic makeover that we thought only WE were experiencing. Somehow, we believed no one else was watching you blossom.
Anyways, I just wanted to say that I’m grateful to you for all the good times. I especially enjoyed how you made it so accessible for us artist’s to meet one another. We really becamelike a family and our drunken nights in the neighborhood were sweet because all we had waseach other. It’s quite obvious; our secret is out so we forever now have to share you with the world. You are a rock star now Wynwood, rock on. Just don’t forget about us. We made you.
