Director’s Cut

We gave Hype Williams, Gore Verbinski, McG and Ted Demme the clothes. As usual, they provided the unique vision

Director: Hype Williams

Designer: Versace

Scene: “I wanted different vibe for this photograph. I didn’t want to be Hype Williams, the brazen music-video and film director,” says the man behind Busta Rhymes’s “Woo-Hah!!”, “Missy Elliott’s “Supa Dupa Fly” and the feature film Belly. “I wanted to be Hype Williams with a softer side. I picked Versace clothes because Donatella’s designs are extremely sexual and romantic, and that’s how I’ve been feeling lately. This jacket just fit with what we were doing, with the vibe. The color of the background, a red version of the American flag by my friend Erni Vales, also helped me out. And if nothing else, I just had to get close to Noemi, one of the most incredible models I’ve seen. She made me melt. I decided to do the Hollywood love scene, and not just because it’s a guy and a girl but because of the emotion you feel when you look at the picture.”

Credits: On Hype Williams: Silk beaded two-button jacket, $7,382; cotton shirt, $310: both by Versace. Custom-made ring by Diamond Quazar-Jacob the Jeweler. On Noemi: Dress by Versace. Hair by China Carroll. Makeup by Birgitte Philippides for Bradley Curry Management. Set design by Erni Vales.
